Every year, January 25 is observed as National Tourism Day in the country. Owing to the diversity and the multi-culturism India has to offer, this day is to highlight the importance of tourism having a positive impact on the country's economy.

The day's importance is plain and simple. It is to highlight the prominence of tourism in the country and how it impacts India's economic prospects. Each and every region in the country has a rich history attached to it that is commemorated in various ways. Tourism is the best way to highlight it all. Along with this, people are educated about the role it plays in the country as well.

This year, the theme of National Tourism Day is 'Dekho Apna Desh'. Corona virus pandemic has intensely affected the tourism sector due to the restrictions on travel. The Ministry of Tourism has been organizing seminars around the theme beginning from January 21 to February 22, 2021.

In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as "National Voters' Day". It has been started from January 26, 2011 to mark Commission's foundation day.

When were EVM first used in India?

The EVMs were first used in 1982 in the by-election to North Paravur Assembly Constituency in Kerala for a limited number of polling stations. The EVMs were first time used on an experimental basis in selected constituencies of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.

National Voters Day theme 2021

The theme for this year's NVD, 'Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed', envisages active and participate voters during elections. It also focuses on ECI's commitment towards conducting elections safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the event on Monday, President Ram Nath Kovind will confer the National Awards for the year 2020-21 and launch ECI's Web Radio: 'Hello Voters'. The event will be held at the Ashok Hotel and the President shall grace the occasion virtually from the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Union Budget 2021: Customary halwa ceremony to be held on January 23

NEW DELHI: The customary halwa ceremony, which marks the process of printing documents for the Union Budget, will be hosted by the finance ministry on Saturday ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget on February 1.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of state for finance Anurag Thakur, secretaries of finance ministry and other officials of the ministry will be present at the ceremony, which will be held at North Block.

Halwa ceremony - tradition

Every year, the government follows an annual tradition of hosting a halwa ceremony, a few days before the Budget is presented. The making of halwa marks the official kick-off of events.

After the ceremony, the employees who are a part of the Budget-making process will move to the basement of North Block for around 10 days, officials said.

They will only emerge once the finance minister presents the Budget in Parliament. This is done to prevent any leaks before the annual Budget is presented," one of the officials in the ministry told ANI.

Halwa ceremony - Recognizes

The ceremony also recognizes and lauds the efforts of every staff who have been a part of the budget-making process.

He was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.He did his schooling at Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Coimbatore. His interest in motorsport began at an early age, as his father was a former Indian national rally champion winning South India Rally seven times. With the ambition of becoming India's first Formula One driver, Karthikeyan finished on the podium in his first ever race, at Sriperumpudur in a Formula Maruti (a.k.a. FISSME).

Narain Karthikeyan - Formula one career

He has previously competed in A1GP, and the Le Mans Series. He has won multiple races in A1GP, British F3, World series by Nissan, AutoGP, Formula Asia, British Formula Ford and Opel series in his single-seater career. He won the British Formula Ford Winter Series in 1994 and Formula Asia Championship in 1996. He also finished fourth overall in British F3 in 2000 and the World Nissan series in 2003. He made his Formula One debut in 2005 with the Jordan team, and was a Williams F1 test driver in 2006 and 2007. Like several other former F1 drivers, Karthikeyan moved to stock car racing and drove the No. 60 Safe Auto Insurance Company Toyota Tundra for Wyler Racing in the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
